The Atlanta Workforce Development Agency (AWDA) offers solutions that can reduce your new hire training expenses by up to 90% through Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funded On-the-Job Training (OJT) services through June 30, 2011. Employers interested in developing OJT contracts with AWDA will be reimbursed for hourly wages paid to eligible employees using a sliding scale that is based on the size of the business as indicated below:
Ø 1-50 Employees - Up to 90% Reimbursement
Ø 51-250 Employees - Up to 75% Reimbursement
Ø 251 or More Employees - Standard 50% Reimbursement
Wage level for reimbursement cannot exceed Georgia’s average hourly wage and is capped at $17.89 per hour. After June 30, 2011, employers will be eligible for up to 50% reimbursement for OJT wages regardless of the size of the business.
Benefits of On-the-Job Training
AWDA will provide your business with the employees you need to increase your bottom line. Through this initiative, you will gain motivated employees and may be eligible to receive up to $5,000 in training reimbursement expenses as well as other substantial tax breaks. Jobs must pay a minimum of $7.50 per hour to qualify.
Additional Incentives
At AWDA, businesses who hire WIA eligible customers have access to an array of hiring incentives such as:
- Weekly job fairs (prescreened applicants)
- People who are anxious to work or re-enter the workplace
- First to know about quality workers being laid off through no fault of their own
- Individuals with newly acquired occupational or work based skills
- On-the-job training subsidies
- Substantial tax breaks
- Skills training for workers
- On-site job counseling, job coaching, and follow-up services to ensure new workers adjust to your work environment; and
- Employees who will be supported in meeting their childcare, transportation and skills needs
