The Atlanta Workforce Development Agency (AWDA) was created in response to the Workforce Investment Act in 1998. AWDA is responsible for the developing workforce strategies and coordinating a workforce system that supports Atlanta’s workers and business community. Atlanta residents gain access to and participate in programs and training necessary to secure employment with a career path for self sufficiency.
Our myriad of programs and services are designed to introduce job readiness and employability skills to Atlanta residents and increase their awareness of the types of attitudes, skills and behaviors needed for success in the workforce.
The agency has provided measurable successes for individuals with minimum and advanced levels of education, as well as those who have never worked or have secured employment but were unable to keep it and those who have worked for years but find themselves searching for work. AWDA is a bureau of the City Of Atlanta and operates under the auspices of the Executive Offices of the Mayor. Formerly the Private Industry Council of Atlanta, the agency has provided a single point of entry for workforce information and services to Atlanta residents for ten years.
The Atlanta Workforce Development Agency partners with federal, state, local governments, public and private colleges, schools, nonprofits and faith based organizations in the delivery of its innovative programs and services. AWDA is a 501c3 non-profit organization led by an active Board of Directors which governs day to day workforce development initiatives slated to improve the employability of Atlanta area residents.
