HOW DO I APPLY FOR A FIREFIGHTER POSITION?
Individuals interested in submitting a firefighter application must:
1. Complete an AWDA Online Pre-Application
If you have already completed the AWDA Online Pre-Application,
please go to step 2.

2. Complete a 2009 Atlanta Fire & Rescue Application (Not Available)
Include all signatures and copies of required documentation (Listed on Page 3 of Application)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proof of citizenship or INS authorization to work in the US is required to apply for the position.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • No felony convictions
  • Must not have been dishonorably discharged from the armed forces

The City of Atlanta is an opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, age, religion or sexual orientation. Applications are processed on a first come first served basis, and appointments are made at the discretion of the Fire Chief. Once appointed, all personnel must maintain continuous certifications as a Georgia Fire Fighter and as a National Intermediate Emergency Medical Technician.
