Former AWDA Customer Returns to Support Those Seeking Employment in the      Securities Industry

      June 25, 2007

James McKinney sought training assistance through the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency (AWDA). He was placed in security training at Apex to upgrade his security certificates and licenses. AWDA was able to pay for McKinney’s tuition through Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funds. “The training I received helped to upgrade my security professionalism and expertise,” said McKinney. Following certification, McKinney worked for several security companies.

Today McKinney is the Vice President and Manager of Operations for Patrick Protective Services. He has also become the liaison for Patrick Protective Services and the First Source Jobs Program. McKinney now hopes to use the same AWDA services he once received, to help youth gain security training and employment within his company.

"We would like to use our resources to help create opportunities for our community’s youth. I am very concerned about our youth and their attitudes towards the workforce, preparation for the job market and skill sets. Working with AWDA, Patrick Protective Services is able to help them with training and put them on a good career path."
