LaKisha Strickland is still reeling from the quick turn-around her life has taken since she met AWDA career counselor, Dorita Smith. Laid off two months ago and having difficulty finding a new position, she attended the AWDA Orientation on Thursday, August 16. On the same day she met Dorita Smith who counseled her with job leads and sound advice on how to make online job searches. With her newly acquired knowledge of computer related jobsites, Ms. Strickland conducted her own online job search. In less than a week, Ms. Strickland was called in for an interview with McKesson Pharmaceutical, was offered the job two hours later and will begin to work full time on August 27 as a Level II Recovery Specialist!
“I would like to thank Ms. Smith for all of her valuable help and support. When I needed someone, she was there with the right information and she took a personal interest in me.” Ms. Dorita Smith is new to the AWDA staff but has already made a difference in the lives of many Atlanta citizens. Recently relocating to Atlanta from Detroit where she gained extensive experience in job readiness and case management, she is a Career Advisor on the AWDA Adult and Dislocated Worker Employment staff.
Congratulations to you both!
