Josette Scott was laid of from her job as an executive assistant. As she researched employment in the Metro Atlanta Area, she became discouraged with the thought of re-entering the job market due to the increasing unemployment rate at that time. The market for executive assistants was highly competitive and she decided she would need a career change.

Scott was referred to the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency (AWDA) website and was impressed with the services offered by the agency. She attended one of the weekly job fairs hosted by AWDA every Tuesday. During orientation she learned about the AWDA process and was introduced to several employers where she was able to give them her resume and interview on the spot.

Scott returned to the agency a few days later where she began to work with employment specialists Dewey McClain, to nd employment opportunities. Within a week, Scott was contacted in reference to an entry-level marketing position with TDC Systems Integration (TDC SI). Although Scott did not have any marketing experience, TDC Systems Integration representatives believed that a few months of on-the-job-training (OJT), coupled with her executive assistant background and high energy, would make Scott a great Marketing Coordinator.

Scott stated, “I was surprised at the many opportunities TDC Systems Integration has to offer employees for career growth.” Currently, Scott is enjoying her new entry-level marketing coordinator position at TDC Systems Integration and is doing an exemplary job, based upon recent performance reviews.

“Scott is an excellent example of someone who had a need, established a goal for herself, and sought AWDA assistance to methodically put her on the path to achieving her goal,” said Lipsey.

Today, Scott has a new start and a chance to expand her skills in a growing marketing profession. With her determination and skills, combined with a boost of confidence created by her experiences with AWDA, she is well on her way to making her dreams come true. “I will always be grateful to AWDA for giving me this opportunity,” said Scott. “The entire process took three weeks and I highly recommend their services to anyone who is in the same position as I was just a few short months ago.”
