THE ELIZABETH BURCH EARLY LEARNING CENTER, STEEPED IN ATLANTA'S RICH AFRICAN AMERICA HISTORY, REOPENS ITS DOORS ON WEDNESDAY
The Elizabeth Burch Early Learning Center located at the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency, will re-open its doors on Wednesday to children from newborns to five years of age. The daycare, managed by the Gate City Day Nursery Association, closed in January of 2008, due to flood damage to the 818 Pollard Boulevard building. Since that time, AWDA has undergone a massive clean-up and renovation, sporting brand new bathrooms and lobby areas throughout the building.
The Elizabeth Burch Early Learning Center has a rich history of providing quality, affordable, and comprehensive early childhood programs that meet the developmental and social-emotional needs of children in their care. This history began in 1905 when the Gate City Day Nursery Association, initially called the Gate City Free Kindergarten, was organized for the purpose of providing and maintaining a free kindergarten for African American children in Atlanta.
Read how the initiation of the Gate City Day Nursery Association dates back to one of the 20th century’s leading scholars, Dr. W. E. B. DuBois.
If you are interested in enrolling your child, please call: Eric Rogers at (404) 753-0411.
