AWDA and Clarke Atlanta University’s Environmental Resource Center Collaborate to Provide Training

On Friday February 19, 2010, the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency (AWDA) and Clark Atlanta University’s Environmental Justice Resource Center interviewed 48 potential candidates for training in the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Minority Worker Program at the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency Headquarters.

The training will provide the selected attendees opportunities for employment in a wide range of programs including Hazardous Waste Abatement, Hazmat Disaster Preparedness Training, DOE Nuclear Weapons Clean-up program, Minority Worker Training (MWT) Program, and Advanced Training Technology Program.
The Major objective of the NIEHS Worker Education and Training Program (WETP) is to prevent harm by assisting in the training of workers in how best to protect themselves and their communities from exposure to hazardous materials encountered during hazardous waste operations, hazardous materials transportation, and the environmental restoration of contaminated facilities and chemical emergency response.

The Atlanta Workforce Development Agency will screen the applicants to assist in finding the best candidates for the training as well as providing supportive services and job placement services.    AWDA has taken the lead on various environmental initiatives and welcomes the partnership.
